Joey Votto hit his second home run of the day and Bronson Arroyo earned his first victory in nearly two months as the Cincinnati Reds beat the host Florida Marlins 3-2 on Wednesday to earn a split of the doubleheader.
Votto, who went deep in the Reds' opening-game defeat, put Cincinnati ahead with an RBI single in the first inning Wednesday night and added an exclamation point with a solo blast to left field in the third.
Votto finished 5-for-9 in the twinbill to raise his average six points to .328. Jay Bruce, who added a run-scoring double, shares the team lead in RBIs with Votto (84).
Arroyo (8-10) made the support stand up with his strongest start of the season. The veteran righthander scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings for his first victory since June 26.
Francisco Cordero surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth but survived to register his 28th save.
Chris Volstad (5-11) lost his third straight. The righthander was charged with three runs on five hits over six innings.
