Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run double and the Florida Marlins won for only the third time in June with a 4-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday.
Chris Volstad (3-7) pitched 6 2/3 innings to break a personal six-game losing streak and also had a run-scoring single for the Marlins, who are 3-21 this month. Florida again was the home team at Safeco Field in Seattle as its home ballpark is unavailable because of an upcoming U2 concert.
The first three Marlins all singled off Jason Vargas (5-5) before clean-up hitter Ramirez hit a ground-rule double to right-center field. Florida added a third run in the first on Mike Stanton’s sacrifice fly.
Volstad didn’t allow a hit until Carlos Peguero homered with two outs in the the fifth. He gave up two runs, five hits and didn’t walk anyone while winning for the first time since April 26. Leo Nunez worked the ninth for his 21st save.
John Buck doubled in the sixth and scored on Volstad’s two-out single.
Vargas allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings.
