Brian McCann homered twice for the third time this season and knocked in four runs as the visiting Atlanta Braves cruised to an 8-3 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.
McCann delivered a three-run blast in the first inning off losing pitcher Matt Garza (6-10), who allowed eight hits and six runs – three earned -- over five innings. McCann hit a solo homer off reliever John Grabow in the seventh to complete the eighth multi-homer game of his career.
Michael Bourn produced a career-high four hits and an RBI for the Braves, who have won seven of their last eight games. He improved to 19-for-47 at Wrigley Field in 2011, playing for both the Braves and Houston Astros.
Brandon Beachy (7-2) gave up three runs – two earned – in six innings to win his fourth straight decision. Beachy has not lost since July 19.
Chicago’s Aramis Ramirez doubled in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 14 games. It was his 700th career extra-base hit.
The Cubs, who started the day with a major league-most 104 errors, had four that led to four unearned runs Thursday.
Freddie Freeman added two hits and an RBI for Atlanta.
