Dan Uggla belted a pair of home runs and Brandon Beachy pitched six strong innings as the Atlanta Braves cruised to an 8-1 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.
Uggla hit a two-run homer in the first inning off Arizona starter Wade Miley (0-1), who was making his major league debut. Uggla delivered his 29th of the season in the seventh, a solo shot off reliever Zach Duke. Rookie Freddie Freeman followed with a solo homer.
Beachy (6-2) won his third straight decision, allowing four hits and one run, and knocked in his first career run with a single in the second. He came into the game 1-for-30 at the plate in 2011.
Martin Prado was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Braves, who have won five of their last six.
Miguel Montero doubled in the lone run in the first for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four straight but remain 2 1/2 games up on the San Francisco Giants in the National League West.
Atlanta center fielder Michael Bourn, who had two hits and two runs scored, made an outstanding running catch and crashed into the wall to take away an extra-base hit and RBI from rookie Paul Goldschmidt in the sixth inning.
