Brandon Beachy earned his first career win with six shutout innings and the visiting Atlanta Braves erupted for eight runs in the ninth en route to a 10-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday.
Beachy, a righthander, didn’t allow a runner past second base and cruised until the fifth when Jerry Sands doubled to leadoff the inning, but he retired the next three hitters to escape the jam. Beachy allowed two hits and struck out seven.
Atlanta's Martin Prado led off the sixth with a solo homer to make it 1-0, and first baseman Freddie Freeman's homer to center in the seventh put the Braves ahead 2-0.
Los Angeles broke through in the seventh on an RBI groundout by Sands that scored Juan Uribe. The Dodgers loaded the bases later in the inning, but Casey Blake grounded out to end the threat.
The Braves batted around in the ninth and got a two-run homer by Eric Hinske and a three-run shot from Dan Uggla as they snapped a two-game losing streak.
