The Detroit Tigers blasted four home runs to avoid a three-game sweep with a 7-5 win over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
Jose Valverde loaded the bases in the ninth inning before retiring Dioner Navarro for his 17th save. Al Alburquerque (4-1) earned the win after striking out four over 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Casper Wells, Magglio Ordonez and Miguel Cabrera each homered off Dodgers starter Ted Lilly (5-7), who struck out eight while giving up six runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Detroit, which was outscored 10-1 in its last two games, struck out 35 times during the three-game series. Dan Kelly added an insurance run with a solo shot in the eighth inning.
After allowing a career-high nine runs in three innings in his last start, Tigers starter Rick Porcello gave up five runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.
Matt Kemp went 3-for-3 with two walks and his 21st stolen base for the Dodgers, who were seeking a season-high fourth straight win.
