Rick Porcello pitched 6 2/3 solid innings and Ryan Raburn homered as the Detroit Tigers defeated the host Seattle Mariners 3-2 on Wednesday.
Porcello (1-2) struck out six and allowed one run and four hits to cool down a Seattle team that scored a season-high 13 runs on Tuesday.
Seattle’s Adam Kennedy hit a leadoff homer in the bottom of the ninth and Michael Saunders hit an RBI-double before Jose Valverde struck out Milton Bradley and Carlos Peguero for his fourth save.
Raburn hit a one-out homer in the first inning off Erik Bedard (0-4) to start Detroit (9-10) to its second win in the three-game series.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the third when Miguel Cabrera singled home Austin Jackson. Seattle (6-13) cut its deficit in half in the bottom of the inning when Jack Wilson scored on Ichiro Suzuki’s run-scoring single.
Detroit tallied again in the fifth when Brennan Boesch singled to drive in Raburn.
Ryan Perry got the final out of the seventh and Joaquin Benoit pitched a perfect eighth for Detroit.
Bedard gave up three runs and five hits in five innings. He walked five and struck out two.
