Travis Hafner hit a three-run homer to cap a 10-run fourth inning and the Cleveland Indians trounced the host Seattle Mariners 12-3 on Friday.
Hafner’s booming homer to right field gave him four RBIs in the inning. Hafner also drove in the first run with a single to center as the Indians (5-2) won their fifth straight game.
Carlos Carrasco (1-1) was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, and gave up one run and four hits in six innings.
Seattle (2-5) finished with six hits while losing its fifth straight game.
The Indians sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth and bunched together 10 hits. Orlando Cabrera and Carlos Santana joined Hafner with two hits apiece in the inning.
Cleveland started the inning with five straight hits off Jason Vargas (0-1) before a sacrifice fly by Matt LaPorta marked the first out. Jack Hannahan followed with a run-scoring single to finish Vargas’ night and give Cleveland a 6-0 lead.
Santana had a two-run single later in the inning and Hafner followed with his homer off Tom Wilhelmsen to give the Indians an 11-0 advantage.
Orlando Cabrera had three of the Indians’ 17 hits. Asdrubal Cabrera homered in the first for Cleveland.
Ichiro Suzuki went 2 for 5 with two RBIs for Seattle.
Vargas allowed seven runs and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.
