Evan Longoria’s two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of eighth inning lifted the Tampa Bay Rays to a 5-4 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.
Johnny Damon singled with two outs to set up Longoria’s home run off Arthur Rhodes (3-3), a shot which barely made the left-field seats. It was his fourth of the season and second in four games for Longoria.
Ian Kinsler and Michael Young had RBI singles in the seventh to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead, but the Rays tied the game on Matt Joyce’s two-run homer with two
outs in the seventh off Texas starter C.J. Wilson. It was the second career home run off a lefthander
for the left-handed hitting Joyce.
Texas took a 4-3 lead in the eighth when Nelson Cruz scored on a wild pitch by Joel Peralta.
Wilson allowed three runs and three hits in 6 2/3 innings. Alex Cobb, making his second major league start, went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs for Tampa Bay.
Peralta (2-3) ended up with the victory and Kyle Farnsworth earned his 10th save by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.
