Johnny Damon’s two-run single keyed a three-run rally in sixth inning as the Tampa Bay Rays secured a 5-2 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
Kelly Shoppach increased the lead with a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Rays (5-8) won their fourth straight game.
Sam Fuld and Matt Joyce had three hits apiece and Felipe Lopez added two for Tampa Bay. Wade Davis (1-2) picked up the the win after allowing one runs and four hits over seven innings. He struck out one and walked two.
Danny Valencia had an RBI single to give the Twins a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Minnesota (4-9) has lost five of its last six games.
Twins starter Nick Blackburn (1-2) cruised through five scoreless innings, but he was relieved after allowing five runs on 10 hits in six-plus frames.
Reid Brignac singled with one out to get the sixth-inning rally going for the Rays and Fuld followed with a double. Both scored on Damon’s single to center field. B.J. Upton later doubled in Damon.
