Justin Masterson threw eight scoreless innings to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 5-3 victory over the visiting New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
Rookie Lonnie Chisenhall hit his first career home run and Travis Hafner had two hits and an RBI as the Indians ended New York's streak of seven consecutive series wins.
Masterson (7-6) was brilliant in winning his second straight start following an 11-game winless stretch. He scattered three hits, struck out six and walked two in lowering his ERA to 2.66.
Shortstop Derek Jeter doubled to move within three hits of becoming the first Yankee to reach 3,000 for his career.
New York starter Phil Hughes (0-2) labored through five innings in his first start in nearly three months. He allowed two runs on six hits while striking out two and walking two.
Nick Swisher had an RBI double in a three-run ninth for the Yankees before Chris Perez closed it out for his 21st save.
Matt LaPorta had two hits in his first game off the 15-day disabled list and Grady Sizemore added a sacrifice fly for the Indians.
