Jeremy Guthrie pitched seven strong innings and Derrek Lee cracked a two-run homer as the host Baltimore Orioles finally beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 on Tuesday night.
Guthrie (4-13) allowed two runs and eight hits as the Orioles snapped a seven-game losing streak to the American League East-leading Red Sox.
Mark Reynolds had an RBI double and Nolan Reimold added an RBI groundout in the second, and Matt Weiters’ infield hit scored Nick Markakis in the third as the Orioles took a 3-0 lead.
Boston made it 3-2 in the fifth on a two-run homer by Jarrod Saltalamacchia.
Lee’s 10th home run gave the Orioles some breathing room in the eighth and Reynolds followed with his 21st homer.
Rookie Kyle Weiland (0-1) allowed three runs on six hits in six innings in his second major league appearance.
Boston’s Dustin Pedroia extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a single in the first.
