Adam Jones drove in four runs and Felix Pie added three RBIs as the Baltimore Orioles topped the visiting Detroit Tigers 10-6 in the opener of a doubleheader on Friday.
Craig Tatum added three RBIs and Chris Tillman pitched seven strong innings for the Orioles, who have won three of four.
The Tigers took an early lead on Don Kelly’s solo homer in the second inning but watched that lead quickly evaporate in the fourth when Baltimore got to Jeremy Bonderman (8-10) for six runs.
Pie got the rally going with an RBI single to right in front of Jones, who came up with the bases loaded and doubled to left to plate three more runs. Tatum capped the rally with a two-run double.
The Orioles piled on with three more runs in the fifth as Pie hit a two-run triple to center and Jones chased him home with a single.
Tillman (2-5) entered the start with just one win and a 6.56 ERA but had no trouble with Detroit, surrendering just three hits while striking out seven and walking two.
The Tigers put four runs on the board in the eighth and one in the ninth but could not overcome the huge deficit.
