Randy Wolf allowed just three hits while pitching his ninth career shutout as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the host San Francisco Giants 3-0 on Friday night.
Ryan Braun had three hits and scored twice as the Brewers kept San Francisco from extending its half-game lead in the National League West.
Wolf (12-11) struck out six and walked two while mesmerizing the Giants all game long. The complete-game effort was his first since 2008. Pat Burrell’s leadoff single in the fifth was the final hit allowed by the veteran left-hander.
Braun hit a two-out double in the first inning against Madison Bumgarner and scored on Prince Fielder’s single to center. Braun led off the fifth with a double and eventually scored when Carlos Gomez hit into a fielder’s choice.
Gomez doubled in the seventh and scored Milwaukee’s final run.
Bumgarner (5-6) gave up two runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
