Juan Uribe belted a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to give the San Francisco Giants a dramatic 5-4 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night.
Cody Ross reached on an infield single with one out in the ninth and Uribe following with a booming homer into the left-center field seats off Jonathan Broxton.
Brian Wilson retired Reed Johnson on a grounder with runners on first and third in the ninth for his 39th save as the Giants pulled within two games of first-place San Diego in the National League West.
Broxton (5-5) pitched in a save situation for the first time since August 21 and his blown save ruined another strong outing by Ted Lilly.
Lilly gave up two runs and three hits and struck out seven in seven innings.
Los Angeles had a four-run lead after Casey Blake’s run-scoring double and Jay Gibbons’ three-run homer.
San Francisco got back in the game with three solo homers during a two-inning span. Buster Posey led off the seventh with a homer and Edgar Renteria’s leadoff homer in the eighth chased Lilly.
Pat Burrell greeted Octavio Dotel with a homer to center for make it a one-run game.
Giants starter Matt Cain gave up four runs and seven hits in seven innings. Javier Lopez (4-2) notched the win with a scoreless eighth.
