Chad Billingsley pitched two-hit ball over eight innings and delivered the decisive two-run single to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4-2 victory over the visiting San Francisco Giants on Friday night.
Billingsley (11-8) struck out seven, walked two and gave up two unearned runs while pitching well against the Giants for the fourth consecutive time this season.
Hong-Chih Kuo pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save.
Billingsley had the inning’s lone hit when the Dodgers broke a 2-2 tie in the fourth. Matt Kemp and Casey Blake led off the frame with walks against Barry Zito and Rob Barajas was walked intentionally with two outs.
San Francisco’s strategy was foiled when Billingsley lined a single to right field that short-hopped the glove of Jose Guillen to score Kemp and Blake.
Barajas hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give Los Angeles a 2-0 lead. San Francisco’s Buster Posey had a two-run single in the fourth to tie the score. The runs were unearned because of an error by Dodgers shortstop Rafael Furcal.
Zito (8-11) gave up four runs and four hits in four innings while losing his seventh straight decision.
