James Loney’s single with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals on Saturday night.
Loney’s single inside the right-field line with the bases loaded scored Ronnie Belliard from third base with the winning run.
Jonathan Broxton (4-3) recorded the win with two hitless innings of relief. Sean Burnett (0-6) took the loss.
Washington took an early 2-0 lead on Ryan Zimmerman’s 22nd homer of the season, a two-run blast in the first inning.
The Dodgers tied the score in the fourth by scoring two runs on a sacrifice fly.
Washington right fielder Michael Morse reached over the fence to rob Matt Kemp of a grand slam homer. Ryan Theriot scored on the fly ball and Andre Ethier scored from second when Washington cutoff man Adam Kennedy threw to an unmanned first base trying to double off James Loney.
Starting pitchers Hiroki Kuroda and Livan Hernandez both pitched well in seven innings of work.
Kuroda gave up two Washington runs on three hits and struck out eight. He retired the final 17 hitters he faced.
Hernandez allowed two runs – one earned – and five hits. He struck out two.
