Andre Ethier finished with three hits, including a three-run homer, to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-1 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday.
Ethier hit his seventh homer of the season in the third inning following singles by Carlos Monasterios and Russell Martin. The blast gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.
Los Angeles increased the advantage to three runs in the fourth when Reed Johnson doubled home Blake DeWitt.
The Dodgers added a seventh-inning run as Ethier doubled and scored on James Loney’s double.
Four Los Angeles pitchers held Pittsburgh to six hits. Reliever Ramon Ortiz (1-1) recorded the victory and struck out five in three scoreless innings.
Pittsburgh’s run came on a first-inning homer by Andrew McCutchen.
Pirates starter Zach Duke (2-3) allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings.
