Manny Ramirez hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Ramirez’s second homer of the season came on a 1-2 count with one out in the eighth. It was served up by Giants reliever Sergio Romo (0-1), who had just entered the game in place of starting pitcher Barry Zito.
Ramon Troncoso (1-0) picked up the win by getting one batter out in the eighth. Jonathan Broxton worked a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
Ramirez’s homer spoiled an excellent outing by Zito, who allowed just one run and four hits in 7 1/3 innings. But he was pulled after walking Garret Anderson, his lone free pass of the game.
San Francisco’s only run came on Juan Uribe’s one-out homer in the seventh off Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw.
Kershaw struck out nine in seven innings, giving up four hits and four walks.
