Wes Helms drove in four runs in the first two innings as the Florida Marlins pounded former teammate Scott Olsen for nine runs in 1 2/3 innings en route to a 16-10 thrashing of the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

The game was marred by a brawl instigated by Nyjer Morgan, who charged the mound in the sixth inning. Morgan was hit by a pitch twice in this contest by Chris Volstad.

The Marlins took exception after Morgan stole second and third base in a blowout.

Mike Stanton added his 15th homer and rookie Logan Morrison doubled and scored three runs for the Marlins, who have won 10 of 15 to pull two games over .500 at 67-65.

The Nationals managed to jump out to a lead in the top of the first but Florida took over from there, pounding the left-handed Olsen for five runs in the first. Hanley Ramirez started the scoring with an RBI double and Helms added a two-run double in the frame.

Olsen (3-8) didn’t fare much better in the second, getting charged with four more runs. Helms again got in on the action with a two-run single. Craig Stammen came on in relief after that and promptly served up Stanton’s homer as the rout continued.

Volstad (9-9) ended up allowing six runs and nine hits in five-plus innings but still managed to escape with a win thanks to the offense’s breakout.
