Mike Stanton went 5-for-5 with a homer and four RBIs as the Florida Marlins battered former teammate Scott Olsen en route to a 9-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.
Logan Morrison collected three hits and scored three runs while Hanley Ramirez belted his 16th home run for the Marlins, who have won five of their last six road games.
Stanton fell a triple shy of the cycle, recording two doubles, two singles and his 11th blast of the season. The 20-year old rookie highlighted a four-run first inning with a two-run double, ripped an RBI single in Florida's three-run second frame and plated his team's last run with a solo shot in the seventh.
Donnie Murphy went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in support of Chris Volstad (6-8), who improved to 3-0 against Washington this season.
Volstad came away with just his second win in eight starts despite allowing four runs and eight hits in five-plus innings.
Volstad's outing, however, was stronger than that of Olsen (3-4), who failed to escape the second inning. The left-hander, who began his career with Florida, was touched for seven runs and eight hits while retiring just five batters.
Ian Desmond posted his first career multi-homer game with a pair of solo blasts and Adam Dunn hit his National League-leading 31st of the year for the Nationals, who have lost four in a row and six of eight.
