Wes Helms delivered a key two-run single and Dan Uggla went 3-for-3 to help the visiting Florida Marlins defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 on Monday night.
Helms’ single in the three-run third inning was one of five Marlins’ hits in the frame off Dodgers starter John Ely. Florida pitcher Nate Robertson had the final hit of the frame, a run-scoring single that gave the Marlins a 6-2 lead and ended Ely’s night.
The Dodgers pulled within 6-5 in the bottom of eighth on James Loney’s run-scoring double but Marlins reliever Clay Hensley retired Russell Martin on a grounder to end the threat.
Leo Nunez pitched a perfect ninth for his 18th save, striking out Rafael Furcal for the final out.
Furcal hit a two-run homer in the fourth for the Dodgers.
Robertson (6-6) allowed four runs – three earned – and seven hits in six innings.
Ely (4-6) gave up six runs – five earned – and nine hits in 2 2/3 innings.
