Troy Tulowitzki homered twice among three hits and Melvin Mora added a grand slam among four hits as the Colorado Rockies continued their improbable march towards the postseason with a 12-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday.
Jhoulys Chacin went eight scoreless innings and Todd Helton drove in a run and scored two for the Rockies, who pulled to one game behind the San Francisco Giants in the National League West. The Giants play later Saturday.
Tulowitzki got the offensive fireworks started in the first when he reached John Ely (4-8) for a two-run blast - his 24th of the season. Colorado added a run in the third on Mora’s single and rallied for three more in the fifth - including Tulowitzki’s second two-run shot of the game.
The Rockies stayed quite again until the eighth, when Jeff Weaver came on in relief and allowed six more runs - capped by Mora’s grand slam to deep left.
Chacin (9-9) scattered nine hits and struck out a pair. The rookie right-hander has picked up the win in four of his last six starts while allowing two earned runs or less in each.
