Melvin Mora snapped a tie with a two-run single and Troy Tulowitzki homered as the Colorado Rockies handed the San Diego Padres their 10th straight loss with a 4-2 decision on Sunday.
Carlos Gonzalez added three hits and scored a run for the Rockies, who pulled to within 4 ½ games of the Padres for the lead in the National League West.
The Padres led the West by 6 ½ games on August 25, but have watched their lead trim to 1 ½ games over the San Francisco Giants, who play Sunday night.
Miguel Tejada knotted the score at 2-2 with a two-run blast in the sixth, but Colorado responded right away with a rally in the top of the seventh. Tim Stauffer (3-3) started the inning in relief and struck out Ryan Spilborghs before yielding a single to Gonzalez and walking Tulowitzki. Mike Adams came out after that and - after a double steal put Gonzalez at third and Tulowitzki at second - yielded Mora’s single to right.
Jorge De La Rosa (6-4) earned the win for the Rockies, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking two in six innings. Matt Belisle tossed two scoreless innings of relief before handing the ball to Huston Street, who struck out the side in the ninth for his 15th save.
