Jason Hammel pitched seven-plus scoreless innings and Clint Barmes hit a two-run double as the Colorado Rockies posted a 5-1 victory over the Houston Astros in the opener of a four-game series on Monday night.
Hammel (3-3) went 7 1/3 innings, allowing six hits while striking out three and walking three.
Barmes doubled in two runs in the second off Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez (3-8), who allowed three runs on nine hits in seven innings with two strikeouts and two walks.
Up 3-0, the Rockies scored two more runs in the eighth on a triple by Miguel Olivo and a sacrifice fly by Todd Helton.
Houston pinch-hitter Geoff Blum ended the shutout against Matt Daley in the ninth by singling in Pedro Feliz. Manuel Corpas came on and got the final out for his seventh save.
Pedro Feliz was 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to nine games in defeat.
