Ubaldo Jimenez tossed a four-hit shutout in a battle of ace pitchers to guide the Colorado Rockies to a 4-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Monday.
Jimenez (10-1) struck out nine and walked a pair of batters on 128 pitches. The right-hander won his fourth straight start and lowered his league-leading ERA to 0.78.
In the process, he outdueled last year’s National League Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum.
Lincecum (5-2) struggled for the fourth straight start. He allowed four runs -- three earned -- on six hits with five walks, his fourth consecutive outing with five walks.
Clint Barmes drove in a pair of runs with a single in the second to score Troy Tulowitzki and Ian Stewart. Todd Helton had an RBI double in the fifth and Stewart scored on a throwing error in the sixth to account for the soring.
Pablo Sandoval was the only Giants' batter to really solve Jimenez, finishing with three of the team’s hits. Freddy Sanchez had the other as San Francisco snapped a four-game winning streak.
