Manny Ramirez hit a two-run homer to cap a decisive four-run sixth inning to give the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night.
Ramirez’s homer came off the last pitch thrown by Jeff Francis and held up as the Los Angeles bullpen blanked the Rockies on one hit over the last four innings to snap Colorado’s five-game winning streak.
Jonathan Broxton struck out Ryan Spilborghs with two on and two out in the ninth for his 12th save. Carlos Monasterios (2-0) got the victory.
Colorado built a 4-0 lead by scoring two runs in both the first and fourth innings. Miguel Olivo drove in one of the first-inning runs and also scored on a sacrifice fly by Ian Stewart in the fourth after a leadoff triple.
Clint Barmes added a fourth-inning homer that was reviewed by the umpiring crew before being officially declared a homer.
Matt Kemp got Los Angeles on the board with a leadoff homer in the fifth. Rafael Furcal’s sacrifice fly and Russell Martin’s double produced sixth-inning runs prior to Ramirez’s big homer.
Monasterios gave up four runs – two earned – and five hits in five innings. Francis (1-1) gave up five runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
