Matt Cain pitched one-hit ball over eight innings and three San Francisco players homered as the Giants beat the visiting Colorado Rockies 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Cain (1-1) struck out eight and didn’t give up a run. The only hit he allowed was Troy Tulowitzki’s leadoff double in the fourth.
Cain retired the final 15 hitters he faced after Tulowitzki’s hit.
Guillermo Mota allowed two ninth-inning hits, including Todd Helton’s run-scoring single, while finishing off the Giants’ second straight win over the Rockies.
Juan Uribe hit a three-run homer in San Francisco’s four-run second inning and Bengie Molina and Aubrey Huff added solo homers for the Giants. Huff went 3-for-4.
San Francisco’s fourth and final second-inning run scored on John Bowker’s sacrifice fly. Molina homered in the third and Huff homered in the eighth.
Colorado’s Esmil Rogers (0-1) lasted just four innings in his second career start. Rogers allowed five runs – four earned – and five hits.
