Seth Smith homered and drove in three runs and Greg Smith tossed seven strong innings for the Colorado Rockies in Tuesday’s 11-3 victory over the New York Mets.
Greg Smith (1-1) allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out eight for his first victory since 2008 with the Oakland Athletics.
He also drove in the first two runs of his career with a double in the third and run-scoring ground out in the seventh.
The Rockies broke open the game with six runs off Mets starter John Maine (0-1) in the bottom of the third inning.
Maine’s second start of the season was a complete disaster, surrendering eight runs in just three innings. Trying to come back from a shoulder injury, the right-hander is now 0-2 with a 13.50 ERA.
David Wright had two hits, including a solo homer, and Jose Reyes had his first multi-hit game since last May for New York.
Brad Hawpe and Clint Barmes had two RBI and Ian Stewart knocked in a run for the Rockies.
