The Los Angeles Dodgers hit four homers in a span of five batters Saturday night en route to an 8-5 victory over Cincinnati, halting the Reds’ seven-game winning streak.
Ryan Theriot and Andre Ethier hit two-out solo homers in the second inning and Jay Gibbons and Matt Kemp hit back-to-back homers to start the third.
The power surge against Reds starter Johnny Cueto helped the Dodgers build a 5-0 lead through three innings.
Los Angeles boosted the lead to 7-1 in the fifth on Gibbons’ run-scoring double and Jamey Carroll’s RBI single.
Cincinnati got back into the game with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Jonathan Broxton pitched the ninth for his 22nd save of the season, but his first since August 3.
Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley (10-7) went 5 2/3 innings and gave up three runs and seven hits. Billingsley struck out seven and walked one.
Andre Ethier had three of Los Angeles’ 12 hits. Joey Votto went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Reds.
Cueto (11-4) gave up five runs and five hits in three innings.
