The Milwaukee Brewers took advantage of an error to score the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday afternoon.
With Carlos Gomez at first base following a leadoff walk against Bob Howry (1-1), Craig Counsell laid down a sacrifice bunt to third base and was erased at first, but a subsequent throwing error by first baseman Xavier Nady allowed Gomez to come around and score the winning run.
Rookie John Axford (3-1) earned the win with one inning of relief.
Corey Hart homered and Ryan Braun and starter Dave Bush each drove in a run as the Brewers took two of three in the series.
Chicago took the lead at 4-3 in the sixth when Nady belted a two-run homer to left center. The Brewers clawed back to tie it in the bottom of the frame when Braun drew a bases-loaded walk.
Cubs starter Ryan Dempster allowed three runs - two earned - and five hits in 5 1/3 innings in the no-decision.
Nady had three RBIs and Ryan Theriot and Marlon Byrd each finished with three hits in the losing effort.
