Derek Lee homered and Ryan Theriot drove in the go-ahead run as the Chicago Cubs used a six-run seventh inning to overtake the Houston Astros and surge to a 7-2 victory.
Much-maligned star Alfonso Soriano finished with two hits and drove in the tying run with a double. Dropped to sixth in the batting order and booed by the home fans, Soriano stole third after the double and came in to score the go-ahead run on Theriot’s bunt single with the bases loaded.
Kosuke Fukudome followed Theriot with a sacrifice fly before Lee capped the rally with a three-run homer – his third blast of the season.
Carlos Silva, who drove in Chicago’s first run with a double in the third, allowed a pair of unearned runs and scattered five hits while striking out five to pick up his first win as a member of the Cubs. The burly right-hander has allowed just one earned run in 12 innings this season.
Rookies Chris Johnson and Tommy Manzella drove in Houston’s runs with back-to-back hits in the fourth.
