Pinch-hitter Nick Hundley ripped a two-run double down the left-field line in the top of 12th inning, lifting the San Diego Padres to a 6-4 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday.
Hundley's clutch hit off Kris Medlen (6-2) capped a late comeback by the Padres, who evened the series between division leaders at a game apiece heading into Thursday's finale.
The Braves were two outs away from wrapping it up in the ninth when San Diego scored two runs against closer Billy Wagner, marking just the second time in 26 appearances since May 19 that Wagner has allowed a run.
Scott Hairston cut the lead to 4-3 with a solo homer to left and Yorvit Torrealba doubled home Jerry Hairston Jr. with the tying run to force extras.
Tim Stauffer (3-1) threw two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win and Heath Bell worked a perfect 12th for his 27th save in 30 opportunities.
San Diego took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI singles by Everth Cabrera and Jerry Hairston Jr.
Atlanta answered with four in the third when Chipper Jones drove in two with a single up the middle and Brian McCann followed him with a two-run shot to right, his 12th of the season.
