Miguel Montero hit two home runs and Kelly Johnson and Gerardo Parra also went deep as the Arizona Diamondbacks earned a 9-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Saturday night.
Winning pitcher Ian Kennedy (7-9) allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking one. He also had two hits and scored a run on Justin Upton’s ground out. Upton also had a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
Montero hit a two-run homer in the second and added a solo homer in the
sixth. Kennedy and Chris Young had RBI singles in the three-run sixth.
The Diamondbacks teed off on Jason Marquis (0-5), who allowed three Arizona home runs. Marquis was charged with five runs on seven hits in four innings, but actually lowered his ERA from 15.32 to 14.33.
Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman hit his 23rd homer and Adam Kennedy had an RBI single in defeat.
