Stephen Drew singled home the go-ahead runs in the 10th and Arizona added another run in the frame as the Diamondbacks secured a 7-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.
The Diamondbacks forced extras when Mark Reynolds scored on Gerardo Parra’s groundout off Milwaukee closer John Axford.
In the 10th, Kelly Johnson and Miguel Montero reached base and came around to score on Drew’s base hit off Trevor Hoffman. Ryan Church followed with a single through the right side to plate Reynolds for the three-run cushion.
Chris Young homered and Miguel Montero had an RBI single in the winning effort.
Sam Demel (1-0) tossed a perfect inning of relief to grab the win. Aaron Heilman worked around three hits to earn his sixth save.
Prince Fielder, Joe Inglett and Chris Narveson each drove in a run for the Brewers, who snapped a three-game winning streak.
Hoffman (2-5) didn’t do much in his quest to regain closing duties from Axford in allowing the three runs on three hits in one frame.
Milwaukee’s Ryan Braun and Corey Hart were late scratches to the lineup because of lingering injuries.
