Adam LaRoche had two home runs and six RBIs as the Arizona Diamondbacks thumped the New York Mets 14-1 on Sunday at Chase Field.
LaRoche went 3-for-6 for Arizona, hitting a pair of three-run homers and adding a double as well. Stephen Drew and John Hester also went yard for the Diamondbacks, who pounded out 16 hits against the Mets.
Daniel Hudson (1-0) made use of the plethora of runs, but didn’t really need the help in his first start with the club since being acquired for Edwin Jackson. He went eight innings, yielding three hits, one walk and striking out four. The only run he allowed was a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to Ike Davis.
Mets starter Jonathon Niese (7-5) did not have his best outing. He was tagged for seven runs (six earned) in 4 1/3 innings, including both of LaRoche’s dingers.
Elmer Dessens and Oliver Perez also got touched up in relief.
Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 17 games.
