J.P. Arencibia belted a pair of home runs in his major league debut, part of an eight-homer explosion for the Toronto Blue Jays in a wild 17-11 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday.

Arencibia, the Jays' top catching prospect, thrilled the Rogers Centre crowd in the second inning by swatting a two-run homer in his first major league at-bat. He went deep again in the sixth frame, joining Bob Nieman (1951), Bert Campaneris (1964) and Mark Quinn (1999) as the only players in major league history to homer twice in their first major league game.

Arencibia finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and three RBIs as the Jays won for the fourth time in five games.

Aaron Hill also had a pair of home runs for Toronto while Lyle Overbay hit a three-run homer and Adam Lind, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion chipped in with solo shots. The eight home runs was the most Toronto had hit in a game since 1998, and was the most the Rays have ever allowed.

Tampa Bay hurler James Shields (10-10) served up six long balls over his four-inning performance, becoming the first pitcher to do so since R.A. Dickey in 2006. Shields was charged with eight runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out two as the Rays dropped their season-high fourth game in a row.

Brian Tallet (2-4) earned the victory with three innings of relief. Toronto starter Brad Mills lasted just four innings, surrendering five runs on five hits with four walks over his five-inning stint.

Dan Johnson led the Tampa Bay offense with a three-run homer and a run scoring single.
