Justin Smoak belted a tie-breaking, two-run homer and Felix Hernandez pitched eight superb innings to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 3-1 triumph over the AL West-champion Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

Ichiro Suzuki had two hits and a run scored while Franklin Gutierrez added an RBI for the Mariners, who have won three in a row.

With the game even at 1-1, Jose Lopez drew a leadoff walk in the fourth inning and former Ranger Smoak hit his 12th home run of the season off Scott Feldman two batters later to put Seattle ahead. It was the fourth blast as a Mariner for Smoak, who hit a decisive three-run shot against his former club on Monday.

Hernandez (13-12), who entered with a 1.50 ERA over his previous 20 starts, allowed one run and five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. The 24-year old ace has yielded fewer than two earned runs in nine of his last 10 outings.

Brandon League worked a scoreless ninth for his sixth save in 12 chances.

Gutierrez got the Mariners on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, but Texas forged a tie in the third on David Murphy's RBI single.

Feldman (7-11) remained winless as a starter since June 18, surrendering three runs and five hits over 4 1/3 frames.
