Jose Lopez hit a career-high three home runs to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.
The veteran second baseman teed off against a trio of Blue Jay pitchers, a memorable performance in what has been a largely forgettable season. Lopez hit a solo shot in the third inning, another solo shot in the sixth and a two-run shot in the eighth to reach 10 home runs for the season.
That was more than enough for Seattle starter David Pauley (3-8), who allowed two runs over six innings to halt a personal four-game losing streak. Pauley walked two and struck out five.
Michael Saunders also went deep for the Mariners, who evened the season series at two wins apiece.
Toronto starter Kyle Drabek (0-2) was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits over five innings in his second career major-league start. Drabek, who walked one and struck out three, is expected to make one more start this season.
Vernon Wells homered in defeat for the Blue Jays.
