Doug Fister ended a seven-game losing streak and the Seattle Mariners made interim manager Daren Brown’s debut successful with a 3-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Monday night.

Jose Lopez, Franklin Gutierrez and Josh Wilson had RBIs for the Mariners, who fired Don Wakamatsu earlier Monday. Brown was summoned from his managerial post at Triple-A Tacoma to take over last-place Seattle.

Fister (4-8), who had not won since May 14, allowed a run on seven hits in six innings with five strikeouts and one walk. He had last won at home on April 19.

Three relievers combined for three perfect frames, including David Aardsma, who threw a perfect ninth for his 21st save.

Vin Mazzaro (6-4) allowed three runs – two earned – on five hits in seven innings for the loss.

Rajai Davis drove in Oakland’s run to cut the lead to 3-1 in the sixth.

The Mariners recorded their first triple play in 15 years in the fourth inning.

Lopez fielded a grounder by Oakland’s Mark Ellis, stepping on third base for a force-out. He then threw to second base for another force and Chone Figgins’ throw to first baseman Casey Kotchman got Ellis as his foot appeared to hit the bag at the same time.
