David Price allowed an unearned run over 7 2/3 solid innings and the Tampa Bay Rays continued their torrid start on the road with a 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
Sean Rodriguez drove in a pair and Willy Aybar and Reid Brignac each had RBIs as Tampa Bay won its fifth in a row and improved to 13-1 away from home.
Price (4-1) surrendered just three hits - all singles - while striking out six and walking four.
Rafael Soriano struck out two in the ninth for the save.
Gio Gonzalez (3-2) was dealt the loss despite a steady performance. He allowed three runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and five walks in seven innings.
Aybar started the scoring with a single in the fourth and Rodriguez made it 3-0 in the seventh with a two-run double. Brignac added a run-scoring single in the ninth.
Oakland broke the shutout when Jake Fox came home on Evan Longoria’s throwing error in the eighth.
