Franklin Gutierrez singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning to help the Seattle Mariners to a 4-2 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday.
The win was the second straight for the Mariners, who had lost six of their first eight games -- four of which came to Oakland.
Gutierrez’s single off Chad Gaudin (0-1) scored Adam Moore, who had singled to start the inning and was sacrificed to second. Jose Lopez followed with an RBI-single that scored Chone Figgins.
Seattle trailed 2-0 until Milton Bradley delivered a two-run single in the fifth. Bradley now has five RBIs in the last two games after totaling just two over the first eight contests.
The A’s took an early lead on Jake Fox’s two-run homer in the second inning.
Jason Vargas (1-1) got the win for Seattle with six solid innings. He allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six with no walks.
Brandon League and closer David Aardsma combined to hold Oakland without a hit over the final three innings with Aardsma earning his fourth save of the season.
