Torii Hunter singled home the winning run with two out in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Los Angeles Angels swept the Oakland Athletics 2-1 in their home finale Wednesday afternoon.
Hunter drove in Jeff Mathis for the Angels, who had the bases loaded in both the ninth and 10th innings but failed to capitalize.
Bobby Cassevah (1-2) got the win while Brad Ziegler (3-7) took the loss.
With the win, the Angels (78-80) grabbed second place over the Athletics (77-81) in the AL West.
Oakland reliever Craig Breslow walked the bases loaded with out one in the bottom of the ninth, but got Alberto Callaspo to pop out and Peter Bourjos to ground into a fielder's choice.
Ziegler got out of another jam in the bottom of the 10th. Howie Kendrick singled, Hunter reached on an error and Hideki Matsui was intentionally walked, loading the bases. Ziegler got Maicer Izturis to ground out and Erick Aybar to fly out to end the threat.
The Angels took a 1-0 lead in the third when Mark Trumbo walked and scored on Kendrick's groundout.
Oakland tied the score in the fifth. Chris Carter led off with a single and scored on a double by Rajai Davis.
Oakland starter Bobby Cramer, a native of Anaheim, allowed one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings. Cramer had four strikeouts and two walks.
Los Angeles counterpart Joel Pineiro went seven innings, allowing just one run on five hits but got his third consecutive no-decision.
