Ervin Santana pitched a complete-game shutout, Kevin Frandsen and Hank Conger had RBI groundouts and the Los Angeles Angels went on to a 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night.

Santana (17-9) went the distance for the fourth time this season, as he allowed only five hits with one walk and eight strikeouts. The 17 wins are a career-high for Santana.

The Angels scored a run in the second inning on Frandsen’s grounder. They extended the lead in the fourth to 2-0 on a groundout by Conger.

The Rangers had a chance to get back in the game in the sixth, but with Julio Borbon and Elvis Andrus at first and second with one out, Santana struck out Michael Young and retired David Murphy on a groundout to end that threat.

The Rangers finished the game 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. They have lost three straight and still have a magic number of six to clinch a postseason berth.

Texas starter Colby Lewis (11-13) again pitched well but has nothing to show for it. He went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks, while striking out at least 10 for the fifth time this season.
