Tommy Hunter turned in another quality start, Josh Hamilton drove in three runs and the Texas Rangers went on to a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night with former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, in attendance.
The Rangers took three of four from the Angels in this series, extending their American League West divisional lead to seven games.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run triple from Hamilton.
The Angels pulled to within a run, 2-1, on Torii Hunter’s solo home run in the second.
Texas then scored single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth to cushion its lead at 6-1.
The Angels came back with a two-run homer from Hideki Matsui in the seventh, and an RBI groundout from Alberto Callaspo in the ninth to pull within 6-4 but that would be as close as they got.
Texas starter Hunter (8-0) turned in his seventh straight quality start, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. Neftali Feliz picked up his 28th save of the season even though he gave up a run in the ninth.
Los Angeles starter Trevor Bell (1-2) lasted only 3 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
