Macier Izturis belted one of the Los Angeles Angels’ three two-run homers on the way to a 10-2 win over the New York Yankees Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.
Izturis finished with two hits and three RBIs. Hideki Matsui and Mike Napoli also homered for the Angels.
Sean O’Sullivan (1-0), starting for Scott Kazmir who was placed on the disabled list Monday, picked up the win. O’Sullivan, who was making his first start of the year, allowed two runs on two hits in six innings.
Nick Swisher homered to give the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the first. The Yankees made it 2-0 in the first on an RBI grounder by Jorge Posada but O’Sullivan didn’t allow another hit before giving way to the Angels’ bullpen and the L.A. offense took over.
The Angels cut the deficit to 2-1 on an RBI single by Izturis in the second and tied the game in the third on a single by Torii Hunter scoring Erick Aybar.
Izturis then blasted a two-run homer on the fourth to give the Angels a 4-2 lead and Mike Napoli cracked a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2.
Matsui greeted reliever Chan Ho Park with a two-run homer in the seventh.
Phil Hughes (11-3) took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings.
