Joel Pineiro threw his third complete game of the season and four players recorded at least two RBIs in the Los Angeles Angels’ 10-1 rout of the in-state rival Los Angeles Dodgers Friday.
Howie Kendrick homered while Hideki Matsui and Torii Hunter each added three RBIs for the Angels, who improved to 9-3 on their season-long 14-game road trip.
Los Angeles won its ninth road game on a single trip for the first time since 1984. The Angels also improved to 10-3 since losing their best hitter Kendry Morales to a broken leg on May 29.
They did so behind Pineiro (5-6) who went the distance for the 15th time in his career. The right-hander allowed one run and five hits with seven strikeouts. He threw 75 of a season-high 118 pitches for strikes, and walked just one.
Pineiro improved to 3-0 lifetime against the Dodgers. He got all the support he needed in the fifth and sixth innings.
Matsui’s three-run double off Chad Billingsley (6-4) in the fifth snapped a 1-1 tie. Hunter put the Angels in the driver’s seat the following frame with a three-run double of his own off George Sherrill.
Kendrick's two-run homer in the ninth capped the scoring.
James Loney homered for the Dodgers, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. Loney's fifth homer of the season tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth.
Billingsley tied a season high by allowing seven runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.
