Kurt Suzuki had four hits and four RBIs and Ryan Sweeney and Eric Patterson had three hits apiece as the Oakland Athletics rolled over the visiting Los Angeles Angels 10-1 on Tuesday night.
Suzuki hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to give the Athletics a 6-1 lead, finishing Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver’s night and ending the Angels’ season-best six-game winning streak.
Suzuki added a run-scoring double in the eighth. Jack Cust had three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the eighth.
Oakland had 18 hits off Weaver (5-3) and reliever Trevor Bell as the Angels fell out of first place behind Texas one night after moving into the American League West lead.
Oakland jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in each of the first three innings.
Cust singled in Sweeney in the first, Patterson singled in Mark Ellis in the second, and Gabe Gross singled home Sweeney in the third.
The Angels scored their lone run on Kevin Frandsen’s infield groundout.
Weaver allowed six runs and 12 hits in six-plus innings, while Oakland’s Vin Mazzaro (2-0) allowed one run and five hits in five innings.
