Kendry Morales hit two home runs and drove in five runs and the Los Angeles Angels set a season-high for runs scored while cruising to a 12-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.
Morales hit a three-run homer in the fourth and a two-run homer in the seventh for the Angels, who beat Oakland for the second straight night.
Athletics starter Justin Duchscherer was scratched just prior to the game when his injured hip became inflamed. He was activated from the disabled list earlier Saturday.
Tyson Ross (1-1) made his first career start in place of Duchscherer and lasted just 3 2/3 innings.
He retired the first 11 batters he faced before Bobby Abreu reached on an infield single. Torii Hunter followed with a single and Morales hit his first homer to turn a two-run deficit into a 3-2 lead. Ross was removed after Morales’ homer.
Five Angels had multiple-hit games – Abreu had three hits while Morales, Hunter, Juan Rivera and Mike Napoli all had two hits.
Ervin Santana (2-3) improved to 11-2 lifetime against Oakland. Santana gave up three runs – two earned -- and seven hits in six innings.
Landon Powell had three hits and drove in a run for Oakland, which has now lost four straight games.
