All-Star right-hander Trevor Cahill hurled his first career shutout and Rajai Davis hit a two-run homer to lead the Oakland Athletics to a 6-0 over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
Cahill (11-4) allowed just three hits while pitching the first complete game of his two-year career. He struck out three and walked four.
Oakland turned five double plays behind Cahill, including on a game-ending grounder in the ninth. Cahill allowed a third-inning single to Mitch Maier, an eighth-inning double to Wilson Betemit and a ninth-inning single to Chris Getz.
Davis hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Athletics an insurmountable 5-0 lead.
Oakland struck in the bottom of the first inning on Kevin Kouzmanoff’s run-scoring single.
Matt Watson added a two-run double in the fourth to give the Athletics a 3-0 edge.
Coco Crisp singled in the final Oakland run in the eighth.
Royals starter Brian Bannister (7-11) gave up five runs and seven hits in five innings.
